Today Apple launches their much anticipated iPhone X (pronounced as iPhone 10) alongside iPhone 8 and 8s, for their 10-year anniversary of iPhones. 10 years ago, Steve Jobs introduced the first-gen Apple iPhone, which brings revolution in the smartphone industry. The first iPhone also gives a whole new direction to the other phone companies, today almost all smartphones have same kind of all screen design, with no key-pad.

Talking about the design first, the Apple iPhone X flaunts an edge-to-edge all-screen fascia with a cut out at the top for the front camera and sensors. Apple is finally ditches  the aluminium body used in the previous iPhones and has adopted a new glass and steel body for the iPhone X, reminiscent of the iPhone 4/4s. The use of glass finally marks the arrival of wireless charging capabilities to the iPhone line up.

The iPhone X removes the Home Button and replaces the Touch ID fingerprint sensor with a sophisticated new facial recognition system called ‘Face ID’. Apple says the iPhone X can notice your face even in the dark. Face ID can’t be fooled by photos, masks or even models of your head, and can additionally be used to make payments through Apple Pay.

Coming to the other features, the Apple iPhone X provides a 5.8-inch OLED ‘Super Retina’ display with a resolution of 2,436 x 1,125 pixels, translating to a pixel density of 458ppi. Of course, it integrates Apple’s 3D Touch technology. You can wake the phone by raising the device, or with a ‘tap to wake’ gesture, something that’s been on Android for years now. Since there’s no Touch ID home button on the front, the new iPhone has greater screen estate to deliver an immersive media experience. The defunct Home button has been changed by a series of new gestures for navigation. You can swipe up from the bottom to go to the home screen, or swipe up and pause for a 2nd to open the multitasking menu. Siri can be invocated with a voice command or pressing the power button.

The smartphone is powered by an Apple A11 Bionic chipset that has six powerful cores. The same SoC is additionally present on the newly introduced iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. It is the Apple’s fastest mobile processor till date. Two of its high-performance cores are 25 percent faster than the A10 SoC. The other 4 high-efficiency cores on board are claimed to be 70 percentage faster than the older Apple SoC. Apple guarantees the iPhone X can last two hours longer than the iPhone 7.

The camera department on the iPhone X has received a boost as well. The phone has a vertical dual camera setup placed on the back instead of a horizontal setup on the iPhone 7 Plus. The phone sports twin 12-megapixel shooters at the rear with optical image stabilisation on both the sensors. The primary sensor has an aperture of f/1.8, while the 2nd sensor offers an aperture of f/2.4. Both the front and rear cameras offer a Portrait mode, which maintains the subject in focus and blurs the background.

The Apple iPhone X comes in 64GB and 256GB storage variants, with pricing pegged at Rs. 89,000 and Rs. 1,02,000 respectively. Pre-orders start on October 27th in India, with availability slated for November 3rd.
